This is my first time drawing a Nidorina (and a Gulpin for that matter) in my style. Poor Nido becomes the victim of "Summertime Ice cream spill over". TT^TT
So, I was thinking how to draw my favorite Pokemon and Nidoran while appearing questionably sane.
Created for a Tumblr marathon known as POKEDDEXY. The point was to draw each of your favorite Pokemon of each type, and then some as you'll see down the line. I didn't actually finish it until January, 2014, due to a late start, other obligations, and the fact that a portion of the art actually has some thought in it rather than really fast doodles. Well, of course I was gonna want to use them later, might as well make them at least half-presentable. This picture was created in the style of Pop'n Music/Rhythmic Pop'n.
Patterns from webtreats ETC. Also, inspired by an official piece of PNM promo art, so there's some similarities.
I'm still taken aback by the fact that there's Pokemon beyond Generation III in this picture. Gosh, who'da thunk it? There's also a bit of cosplay for those of you who also revel in obscure Japanese fun n' games, and just for kicks, two extras decided to... Pop'n... for a cameo (who won't be pictured otherwise). :D Not ashamed of that, nope.
If something like WarioWare were personified as a being that's typically silent, it would be Goku. Goku is all that Japanese absurdity you may have seen in places, but as a character himself mostly stays in the background, so that when he does show up it's just that much stranger. Definitely the strangest and least consistent denizen of Dokio in that he may grow additional body parts he never had or go way way way off model for a panel, or just bend reality in anyway he feels like, all while not saying anything. You could say he's BaBeat in Pokemon form. Perhaps even the spirit of BaBeat?
Gulpin's design is undeniably Japanese. It just has to be some kind of in-joke westerners aren't wise to. I gotta hand it to them for basing a creature off of either an emoticon or throwaway gag face, which is why Goku turned out to be the way he is, rather than playing the "eats everything" angle straight. I mean, so do a lot of Pokemon, there's nothing unique about that.
Goku is from Chibi's Corner.
Man that's a lot of tags
