Clay Figurine of Mama Nidorina

Made so I could say I had one. This predates the chibi plushies, and the official Nidorina objects I had weren't good enough (none of them can step to Mama Nidorina anyway). It looks better live, I wish I was better at taking pictures.

I get what I want... when I make it, that is. The first of the chibi plushies. This isn't the first doll I've ever made, but the first with a sheer amount of details. Made from a velour blend and felt, with a polyester bow. She stands about 8 inches tall. Being the first doll, there was still some kinks to work out for later dolls.
The chibi series dolls are based from the Chibi-Chibi Nido dolls of Crane Crazy, although the eyes are more like Riri's. My sister arranged the doll and took the pictures. That explains why it looks better.

The somber experiment has finally arrived! The deadpan look and the hair make this doll cute. My sister has one as well, but so do a few others around the world. Just how many times was Seven* duplicated? World chaos is afoot.
*Charlotte's real name.

You can tell this was written in promotion of the show. Dexter? Since Nidos didn't have an episode at the time, they had to resort to the in game information. But the way this card goes about it you would think Nidos were darn near legendary. Also, the lineart is kinda shakey on all these.

Do you see that? Her head is huge. Maybe it's the placement of the ears, but it's just so disproportionate compared to Sugimori's art. And that's considering the old cute fat version and the recent revision.

Here's the big head again. This is the worst Nidorina design ever, and this is the one they chose to market? My figurine is based off of the anime design and even it's created proportionately. Fire this artist.

Nidoran's pretty ill proportioned too. Just like in Pokemon Stadium, except it was his arms, there.

Oh great. The ear bit again. Even Nidoran's tired of hearing that one (see what I did there?).

I dunno if it's intentional, or if even the official artists can't remember how to draw Nidos right, but there's been a lot of inconsistancy with the ears on the old art, and even in the show. Maybe in real life, all Nidos are unique, by spot count and ear-thorns. That's pretty cool, actually, but I doubt they were thinking about that (and if I asked, they'd just pull a "oh...oh yeah. Yeah. That's the thing we did").

You know your source material is paper thin when whoever wrote these had to pad them out with theories. Though, here's a highly interesting revelation. I dunno the credibility of the editorial, but read look at the "spikes shed" quip. Unless they were some kind of idiot who couldn't see the spikes on Nidoking's back, maybe they could put two (Nidoran's design) and two (final form's biology) together just by educated guess.

Sound off, it's a cavalcade of counterfeit collectables. Sadly, this is probably the best looking photo I've ever taken, though I learned that my camera is pretty subpar.

The figurine design is strange enough as it is (I tend to use the Burger King one for reference, a much better shaped head for one), but these do Nidoran no favors. The middle one clearly sold his soul to the dark side.
Nidoran Knockoffs. Again!

The backside of the middle one is so poorly constructed, you can still see where the pieces where supposed to fit together, and now it just looks like he's got air vents.

The Nido females get down and dirty. More like grody, they must've dropped them before the plastic cooled or didn't give them a coating of some sort. They came like this, and frankly, I don't wanna know where they've been. And the colors are pretty off, Nidoran's coming close.

See that yellow stuff around Nidoran's neck. Yes, you can actually still see the wonderful glue job they've done. Nice work, guys. I'll also tell you this, plastic figurines should not have a gritty texture. Like, ever.

I'm appalled they had the cojones to print copyright Nintendo. Well, maybe they're giving credit where credit is due (not likely), but you don't see me touting around anything I make here as an official Nintendo product (or worse, your standard "fan character is copyright me").

Unofficial Nido Magnets

Got these in Chinatown. Of course, anyone could've made these, and they just filched artwork from an image search I'm sure (Nidoran Female isn't even the same quality as the rest of her evolutions for goodness sake), but they were cheap, and Nido, which equalled "gotta have". The cool thing about the store was that the magnets they were selling leaned towards Nido (like) favoritism, as they were only selling Nidos, Ratta fmaily, and Rhyhorn family magnets (with a one off Hypno, Golem, and Oak/Jenny/Joy/somebody else magnet). That coupled with the fact that most Chinatown wares cater to the first generation, and it's a shopping spree.

Hey look! Tomy finally made a new Nidorina figure that isn't modeled after the terrible anime art!... Just kidding! I made this because I really wanted to make a Tomy-style Nidorina figure modeled after the official Ken Sugimori art. She even balances perfectly in her stance ^^ Actual Tomy for comparison.

First, I did NOT make this. However, I do now own it from a trade I did with Tara Billinger a.k.a. nosleepjinx on DA. However, she is modeled after a Nidorina Pokedoll figure that I made. As the image says, she is 6 inches tall, made of soft, minky fabric, and has embroidered features. I love her so much and she tags along with me just about everywhere ;D

Female Nido Keychains
Link To Full Image
I had acquired these during the fall, or summer, in 2010 but was too lazy to get them up (more like I dislike using cameras, but I figured out I can scan these). Probably the most recent Nido product in years not including the cards. Man, the poor Pokemon. There's something off model about these, though, and I'll save that for the male set's description.
Male Nido Keychains
Link To Full Image
While I appreciate the new poses (finally), these keychains are rather off model for an official corporation's non stylized design. Remember, off model isn't always a bad thing, depending on the context, but these are more like out of proportion to be more precise. For example, Nidoran male's large head reappears, it's a bit too angular and the rest of his body seems puny. It just looks more like he's underfed than anything. Sheesh, they could have at least erred on the cute side (in other words, making them look more cuddly than necessary). Tokidoki products make a fortune on that concept.
Still, I'm not going to complain. They look cool anyway, and what with five generations of Pokemon (meaning more to choose from as well as more to neglect), we'll probably never see another new Nido product again (barring the cards). I'm not being absolutely literal about "never", but Nidos aren't that big in Japan (less so than anywhere else, at any rate).

These figurines are ultra cool. If I'm not mistaken, I think these were originally gashapon, so that makes these pretty rare. But it's not that I'm concerned about. It's the fact that these may be the only Nido toys worth a darn in design. I believe these are circa 2000, but their design is heavily based on the old Sugimori designs, which should make every Nido fan jump up for joy. I'll go through each of them and point these design touches out. For starters, Nidoran here has thighs, as opposed to feet attached to nothing. The compromise is that the rest of her design is what the anime has standardized (two spikes, etc). I find her smile to be adorable. :3 Also, love the "leaping to the left" shot. So cute.

Here's one you'll just love (AHAHAHAHA). This may very well be the only piece of official Nidorina merchandise worth having if she's one of your favorites, but can't be bothered into becoming a general collector of all things Nidorina. As far as I'm concerned, it's the only figurine based off of Sugimori's design. Specifically "Fat-Cute" Nidorina. That's all that needs to be said. As you can see, her face is rounder and smoother than anime based figurine (which is how it should be). I can't believe a gashapon toy turned out the be one of the best. The hearts are a really neat touch. She must be using Charm, and it's working, darn it. >:U And depending on the shot, like where it looks like she's looking over her shoulder? Augh! I can't stop gushing! Best pose, best toy, best everything. Nuff said. It makes me wonder if they were planning on doing more with Nidos back then, but no one took notice so they stopped trying.
Because of her pose, I had to take more photos than necessary to get the right angles. Therefore, I made a gif using these and the unused photos to show her spinning around "on display". Full size and smaller. Hooray for stop motion animation! :D

This one's pretty cute. Sleeping Nidoran looks like he's dreaming about something he doesn't like, though. I suppose because Nidoran has so many ear points (and back in those days, they didn't really have a consistant number per ear), they seemed to have just haphazardly dotted them around his ear. But that aside, it's a nice figurine to have. I'll admit, sleeping or not, I wish he'd've been given a different pose. It's a little to close to that generic overused one for comfort.

Remember when Nidorino used to look menacing? If your first Pokemon experience started with the Game Boy Advance era and beyond, of course you don't. But this site's here to inform you with all kinds of source material that yes, Nidorino used to look like he could tear you a new one with great ease. And this figurine's based on it. Check out that look in his eyes first and foremost. Nidorino's pupils got bigger later on, but here he's not playing around. Notice that he also has six spikes instead of five, in two sets of three! But the most attention to detail is that the ears are asymmetric insofar as the points that rest on them, just like the old design. I'm just lovin' the craftsmanship they put into these little things. I don't place "fearsome Nidorino" over what we have today, but it's nice to have an official figure of it. Growing up, I did say that Anime Nidorino looked like a girl (kinda) compared to "the one in the book".

I bought these back when I visited the Pokemon Center in New York the first time, as evidenced by the copyright date. It only now occured to me that I should scan it. I regret not buying the mug or other pieces that had Nidoqueen on them. I know I was a Nido fan back then based off of the fact that I remember I was doing Poppistar Universe and Poke Legends around that time (it's sad that the only way I can recall when I liked a Pokemon was how I utilized it). But I was a kid with no money back then, too. Nidoqueen is playing a cute role, sure, but I get more nostalgic just looking at this overall than anything. I guess in my case, it carries a memory for me. Back when the Pokemon Center was good, and I could still (care to) keep track of the amount of Pokemon in existance. :P
