Thanks For Ruining My Image, Jerk

It occured to me. You know how I always blame Sugimori for uninteresting Pokemon designs, but in fact the real culprit is the Anime! While true, the latest Sugimori Nido art was a serious afterthought, it's still better than the anime interpretation (actually, I like his Pikachu, Jigglypuff and Jynx better, to name a few others).

I recalled Nidorina's old promo art. Hey! She actually looks more like an accurate, feminine evolution (which, honestly, I've been basing my better drawings from 199(whenever) to now off of) of a female Nidoran. I dunno, this interpretation had a lot more charm.

...then the anime comes along and turned her into a pig-like thing. And it's not just Nidorina. Nidorino also looks wonky in the anime. I could understand if they were a special case, and the rest of them looked normal, but come on. What's more ironic is the anime makes cuter Nidorans (but ONLY when they aren't background and then look deformed or happen to be miscolored, yeah I saw that).

So after the anime came, pretty much everyone started to draw from that style instead, and now we get a lot of Pug-Rinas instead of Rhino-Rabbit-Guinea Pig-whatsits (you'd think that'd be worse). And I thought Nidos (middle Nidos, especially) couldn't be shafted any moreso!

Fortunately, there's the sprites, which aren't drawn by the same people. I always felt R/S/E got back on the right track, and so far the D/P ones keep it in line.

And so, all being said, Nidorina disapproves of anime Nidorina.
